Spring Break Serve and Learn day

April 14th| 11:00AM-4:00PM | We are excited for you to join us as we learn about the local ecosystem, the history and leadership of the Duwamish Tribe, and the ongoing work of conservation and restoration. As followers of Jesus, when we look at the book of Genesis we are reminded that we are called to be stewards of creation. Scripture tells us that God formed humanity from the dust of the ground, which means our lives are deeply connected to the land itself.

As people of faith, we believe creation is not just scenery, it is a sacred gift that helps shape who we are. Spending time on the river is an opportunity to slow down, notice the beauty around us, and reflect on what it means to care for the earth and to be good neighbors in our shared home. Together, we will explore how following Jesus invites us to live with responsibility, gratitude, and wonder for the world God has made.

TRIP DESCRIPTION

This educational kayaking tour will loop around the Duwamish River and circumnavigate Kellogg Island. Along the way, we may see osprey, bald eagles, seals, purple martins, terns, and other wildlife.

As we paddle together, we will be invited to pay attention to what God might be teaching us through the natural world and stories being told. Creation has a way of reminding us that we are connected to one another, to the land, and to something bigger than ourselves.

What to Expect:

This trip is rated as an easy paddle, and no previous experience is needed. We will move at a casual pace with plenty of opportunities to rest, reflect, and take in our surroundings. We will do our best to pair less experienced paddlers with more experienced ones, and you will always be traveling as part of a group.

You can also expect to get your feet wet at some point. We highly recommend wearing synthetic or athletic clothing and avoiding heavy cotton or jeans. Old sneakers or water shoes are best since we will be getting in and out of kayaks on slippery or muddy surfaces. For safety reasons, crocs and flip flops are not allowed.
